Our Background

Rajasthan Mahila Vidyalaya (RMV), widely acknowledged as one of the premier institutes for girls' education in the city of Udaipur, was established in 1916 on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashmi. It has the credit of being the seat of learning for girls from nursery to postgraduate level. Establishing an educational institution for girls about a century back at a time when, to think of education of girls was a rare phenomenon in the state of Rajasthan and much less in the region of Mewar.

This was really a very bold step taken by the founder, philanthropist and social worker Shri Bheru lal Ji Gelda, his friends and other visionaries. Rajasthan Mahila Vidyalaya with its rich illustrious history is situated in the heart of the city of lakes, Udaipur, the ancient Capital City of historical Mewar State strategically girded by spectacularly green, lofty and minerals rich Aravali hills and beautiful lakes.

RMV began its glorious journey with a Primary girls' school during the feudal regime when girl education was a rare phenomenon in an orthodox society. In carrying out the endeavour to provide girl education, the founders had to face many impediments of financial and social character but their commitment and zeal enabled them to overcome the difficulties that came across their way.

Started as a sapling with one student and a teacher the organization has expanded its horizon into a huge educational tree comprising of nine institutions with 2600 students, a dedicated team of 175 teachers and administrative staff, rendering their diligent services for running the Organization. RMV has a tradition of achievement with a strong record for placing women into worthwhile & rewarding vocations and careers. It has produced many committed social workers, dynamic officers, renowned teachers and versatile homemakers in the society.
